The young adult department offers services to teens age 12 to 18, including programming, homework assistance, research assistance, award winning titles, magazines, audiobooks, eBooks and iPad training.

Winter Reading Program

January 8 – February 26

To compete in the reading olympics you will need to pick up a score sheet from one of our four locations.  The score sheet lists 10 Olympic events with qualifications for each.  Readers may choose to complete any or all of the events.

Complete 1-4 events:  return score sheet to receive a participation award

Complete 5 events:  return score sheet for a prize and be entered to win a “bronze medal” award

Complete 7 events:  return score sheet for a prize and be entered to win a “silver medal” award

Complete 10 events:  return score sheet for a prize and be entered to win a “gold medal” award

Every olympian will receive a participation award when they return the score sheet to an SCPL location no later than February 26, 2018.  Bronze medal contenders in each age group will be entered to win a tote bag prize-pack.  Silver medal contenders in each age group will be entered to win a Kindle e-reader.  Gold medal contenders in each age group will be entered to win a Kindle Fire tablet!

LEGO Mindstorms

Wednesdays, January 17 – February 21 3:30-4:30pm

@ Main Library – Rockport

Ages 12-18 years

A six-week LEGO Mindstorms program for teens. The Mindstorm set is a programmable unit that controls motors and sensors as well as provides wireless communication (WI-FI and Bluetooth); it’s a robot!   These programs are limited to 24 teens at each weekly session.
Participants will work in groups of two to build and program the LEGO Mindstorms robot.
